A delegation from the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, led by Deputy General Director Giorgi Sopromadze, participated in the 36th ICARUS Convention held in Tallinn.
The theme of this year's meeting — 'Presenting Heritage, Empowering Knowledge — from Archivists to Society' — included discussions on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, data protection, multimedia archives, innovative technologies, and community engagement. Particular attention was paid to the potential use of modern digital tools to increase the accessibility and promotion of archival heritage.
Sophio Jobava, Head of the Public and International Relations Department of the National Archives of Georgia, shared the audiovisual and multimedia projects of the National Archives of Georgia with colleagues. The presentation highlighted the National Archives' activities in document digitization and the multimedia interpretation of digital documents, the digitization and restoration of film collections, ensuring access to revived Georgian film heritage, and more.
Within the framework of the convention, Giorgi Sopromadze met with Birgit Kibal, President of the International Centre for Archival Research, and discussed opportunities for future cooperation and joint projects. He also learned about the activities of the event's host, the National Archives of Estonia, and discussed deepening cooperation in document restoration with Estonian colleagues.
Conventions of the International Centre for Archival Research serve as a platform for archivists, researchers, and cultural heritage specialists from various countries to gather, share experiences, and plan future professional cooperation, where leading archive specialists discuss current challenges and achievements in the field of archival science and modern technologies.
